On February 9, 2021, Their Serene Highnesses Prince Albert and Princess Charlene attended the official presentation of the Monaco Sevens 2021 rugby tournament. The event took place at the Monaco Yacht Club. French rugby player Mathieu Bastareaud made the virtual kickoff after Princess Charlene and Prince Albert passed the ball.
The competition will be sizzling this summer as 24 teams will be competing on June 19 and 20 at the Stade Louis II in Monaco to qualify for the Tokyo Olympic Games. The tournament is organized with the support of the Monegasque Rugby Federation, the Prince’s Government and institutional partners. The draw will take place later in April and in June the two best women’s teams and the best men’s team will be able to participate in the Tokyo Olympic Games this summer.
Princess Charlene is a major rugby fan, and she’ll sure be busy on June 19th as the Sainte-Dévote children’s rugby tournament will be taking place too. The tournament is organized by the Monegasque Rugby Federation and the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation. You may remember that the Princess gifted a bus to Tbilisi’s Rugby Team so they can drive to Monaco to participate this year.
For the event, HSH wore the Fédération Monégasque de Rugby blazer and a matching aubergine waistcoat. Princess Charlene repeated her black Akris wide-bottom pants and matched it with her 2013 Walter Steiger black pumps.
You may also notice a new haircut. I want to like this one, but I’m afraid it’d be gone by the next event… I gotta work on these abandonment issues… I leave you, dear friends, with Monaco Info’s reportage of the event.
